Peeling paint and mildew stains
Loose paint scraped off, walls and ceiling cleaned and primed, then repainted with a moisture- and mildew-resistant bathroom paint. See the paint sheen guide.
Dario’s Painting repairs and repaints bathrooms across Memphis and Shelby County: peeling paint and mildew stains, water-damaged drywall, cracked tile, and worn grout and caulk. It is repair-size work, not a remodel. Dario prices it at a free on-site estimate and writes the price down.

Most bathroom trouble in Memphis starts with steam and humidity: peeling paint, mildew, worn grout and caulk, drywall that goes soft where water gets in. Dario’s Painting scrapes, cleans, primes and repaints, replaces water-damaged drywall once the leak is fixed, replaces cracked tile, redoes grout and caulk, and paints vanities and trim. It does not do remodels, new showers or tubs, or plumbing and electrical changes. There is no price list: it is priced at the free on-site estimate. Estimate visits are on weekdays from 11:30 to 1:30 and on Saturdays from 7am to 6pm.
Every repair and the painting are written into the estimate before work starts.
Loose paint scraped off, walls and ceiling cleaned and primed, then repainted with a moisture- and mildew-resistant bathroom paint. See the paint sheen guide.
Soft or stained drywall around tubs, showers, toilets and on ceilings, once the leak is fixed: cut out, replaced, taped, mudded, sanded, primed, painted. See drywall repair.
Cracked, chipped or loose wall and floor tiles are replaced. The new tile has to match, so it is found or you supply it.
Crumbling grout is regrouted. Worn caulk around tubs, showers and sinks is cut out and redone.
Painted the way kitchen cabinets are. See cabinet painting.
Baseboards, casings, doors and ceilings get the same care. See trim, doors and baseboards.
Steam lifts paint, first on the ceiling and walls near the shower. A new coat over loose paint peels again.
Black or gray speckling in corners or along the tub. It is cleaned off first: the EPA says paint over moldy surfaces is likely to peel.
Press on the wall or ceiling near a tub, shower or toilet. Soft, swollen or crumbling drywall, or a brown ring that keeps returning, means water. Have a plumber check for a leak first.
A cracked tile, one that moves, or one that sounds hollow when tapped can let water in behind the wall.
Gaps and dark lines around the tub, shower and sink are where water gets behind the wall.
Dario looks at the walls, ceiling, tile, grout and caulk, presses on suspect drywall and asks where the water came from. He tells you what he finds.
A written price for each repair and for the painting. Free, no obligation, and yours to keep.
If water is getting in, a plumber fixes it and the area dries first. The EPA says to dry water damage within 24 to 48 hours to prevent mold growth.
Soft drywall is cut out and replaced, taped, mudded and sanded smooth. Cracked tiles come out and new ones are set.
Tiles are regrouted and joints around the tub, shower and sink re-caulked. Grout and caulk need their own cure time, which Dario tells you at the visit.
Patches and bare spots are primed, then the walls and ceiling get a moisture- and mildew-resistant bathroom paint. Paint is usually dry in about a day.
You walk the bathroom with Dario and point at anything not right. It is fixed before the job is called done.
The bathroom is out of use while paint dries and grout and caulk cure; if it is your only one, say so when you book. See how a job goes.
Paint on glazed tile is a short-term fix. In a shower or around a tub it wears, chips and peels first, and it does nothing for a cracked tile or failing grout.
Crumbling or cracked grout is cut out and redone, so water stops seeping behind the tile. It lasts longer than paint over old grout.
Cracked, loose or hollow tiles are taken out and replaced. Redoing a whole shower or floor in new tile is a remodel, and not what Dario does.
Matching is the hard part. If your tile is still sold, a match can be bought. If it was discontinued, look for spares from the original job, or Dario tells you at the visit how close a match he can find. He cannot promise an exact match for old tile.
Memphis air is humid for much of the year, so a damp bathroom dries slowly and mildew has more time to grow.
A hot shower fills a small room with steam that settles on the walls and ceiling. Ordinary flat wall paint absorbs it; a paint made for damp rooms holds up better.
The Home Ventilating Institute sizes a fan at about 1 cubic foot per minute per square foot of floor, ducted outdoors, and says to leave it on 20 minutes after use. A fan that is too small, or never turned on, leaves the steam in the room.

Dario is a painter, and his bathroom work is repair-size. He does not do full remodels, new showers or tubs, tub-to-shower conversions, or moving or adding plumbing or electrical. For those, hire a remodeler, a plumber or an electrician. He also does not fix leaks: if water is still getting in, a plumber comes first. If he finds something at the visit that is outside what he does, he tells you plainly and does not paint over it.
There is no price list. Each job is priced at the free on-site estimate, because it depends on how much is damaged, whether the tile can be matched and what else gets painted. Dario leaves you a written price, and anything he could not see at the visit is quoted separately.
Yes. Loose paint is scraped off, the walls and ceiling are cleaned and primed, then repainted with a moisture- and mildew-resistant bathroom paint in the right sheen. Satin or semi-gloss is the usual pick; see the paint sheen guide.
Yes. Vanities and bathroom cabinets are painted the same way as kitchen cabinets: cleaned, sanded, primed and painted. See cabinet painting.
Paint can cover tile for a while, but it is a short-term fix. In a shower or around a tub it is the first thing to wear and peel, and it does nothing for a cracked tile or crumbling grout. Replacing cracked tiles and regrouting lasts longer.
